Fall is the perfect time to begin a walking program for body and brain health!

The weather is cooler so heat and humidity need no longer be a factor in putting off heading out your front door.  This time of year you worry less about poison ivy and snakes when you are hiking so – really – what is your excuse?  The next three months will allow you to build a good base before the colder winter weather is upon us and you may just continue through those colder days, especially if you are in a milder climate.  In Dallas, you can walk through the winter most days.  Isn’t that great?

Walking grows your hippocampus.  Period.  Walking allows you to communicate with nature and get some vitamin D in the process.  Nature has healing, curative powers, but you have to be out in it, folks!  Walking has the same cardio benefits as running…even Cooper Clinic came out with a study that stated that fact.  You don’t need fancy equipment or a gym membership to start.  Whether you walk with friends as a social experience or by yourself as a meditative one, walking should become a foundational principle in your wellness program!6 benefits of exercising in nature
