Weekend Edition Newsletter March 8, 2024

March is here and it blew in like a Texas tornado!

Dry Sauna CLOSED Monday, March 11, from 1:30 to 5:30 pm for a Private Sauna Course. The Sauna will be open the morning of March 11.

This month is very busy with Legacy’s regular programming for clients and new programs: ELDOA education, client Wellness Immersions, and Intensive Sports Performance Coaching.

The month started with a new Wellness Workout this past Saturday morning – FLO Movement Session.

A FLO Session is a 30 or 60-minute continuous low-impact movement session. FLO mixes exercises from different regions of the body, linking them together with the intent of improving awareness, joint function, and the ability of a person to move well and without pain. Previously, FLO sessions were used primarily with the athletes at our Sports Performance Center as part of private training sessions and in our camps. Saturday was the first time that a FLO session was taught for our wellness community members. The feedback was fantastic, so much so that we added another FLO Session this month, Saturday, March 9 at 9:00 am prior to our Open Gym Tutorial and the Open Gym-Open Sauna block.

For the updated exercise and training schedule, please see the section below. For more information about this weekend’s Client Tutorial and Open Gym-Open Sauna block, please see the Wellness Section of this Newsletter.

In Education News, Legacy’s next Client Tutorial is scheduled for March 9 from 9:30 to 10:00 am. In this brief exercise Tutorial, Scott will discuss the difference between global and functional exercises versus specific segmental exercises that a person may need or that can be used to enhance the quality of a person’s tissue. Immediately following this Tutorial a program will be set up in our Gym combining these two different styles of exercise in a circuit format, which clients can follow. Following Open Gym, the Cold Plunge and Dry Sauna will be available until 1:30 pm.

SomaTraining Texas Institute – hosts ELDOA Level 1 March 14 beginning at noon, and ELDOA Level 2 March 15-17. ELDOA 1 is a one-day course about the most frequently used ELDOA postures of the spine. This course is open to everyone – wellness practitioners, athletic trainers, sports organizations, massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, and CLIENTS. Every person in our community can benefit from this one-day Certification Course. Enrollment is open and can be found on the website or contact Claudia in the Business Office for additional payment options and course information – legacyperformwell@gmail.com

The last half of March is filled with Legacy’s Wellness Immersions for members of our community who live abroad, but you don’t have to live out of town to take advantage of all the programs and services that Legacy offers in our Immersions.

In just a few days clients that immerse themselves within Legacy’s environment see positive change take place, and with a well-designed plan and customized videos, long-term change occurs.

To learn more about Wellness Immersions, or any of the services we provide, contact Claudia: legacyperformwell@gmail.com.

2024 GYM CHANGE

DROP IN GYM

$25.00 or $20.00 with a Legacy Card

What is Open Gym and how is it different from a Drop In Gym Session? Legacy Sport & Wellness is a private facility with a Cardiovascular Center, Group Exercise Area, Dry Sauna and Recovery Program, and a fully equipped Gym. These services are reserved for our private clients who have a custom designed Home Program. An Open Gym Session is a specific block of time that we schedule throughout the month in which clients can come and take advantage of the services we have to offer. For example, many of our clients have experienced back pain at some point in their life and our Gym has several pieces of specific equipment to help them which are typically not found in most other facilities.

During Open Gym sessions, often times a workout is written on the white board for clients to follow and post workout myo-fascial stretching/ELDOA exercises are suggested. If necessary, clients are permitted to take shoes and socks off for specific exercises. All the participants who attend Legacy’s Open Gym or Drop In Gym Sessions respect our NO VIDEO policy. Open Gym Sessions are never over-crowded therefore our equipment is always available…no wait for the equipment.

If you have a Home Program, Sauna Card or a Group Class Card, you can drop in and workout in our Gym for $20.00.

Without a card, the fee is $25.00.

Wellness News

March begins this weekend at the Wellness Center and features a new group exercise session – FLO.

FLO is a continuous movement session with the principle goal being to improve the movement between different regions of the body. This workout is low-impact and good for everyone – wellness clients, athletes, and clients with moderate to mild injury.

Wellness Tip: Fresh, wild cod is a better source for omega-3 fatty acids. If cod is not available, Carlsen’s Cod Liver Oil is Legacy’s recommended substitute. Available at your local market.

Sports and Performance News

This week begins Week 8 of Off-Season Training for professionals at our Performance Center. Up until this point in time, most of the players are working to heal their bodies from their regular season using a program that we designed in combination with our Recovery Center resources. At this point in the off-season players are in the process of transitioning from “an injured state” to a healthy state and they are ready to integrate global exercises and movements into their training.

For example, a classic back squat exercise is used in combination with a number of specific factors of progression that are unique to each player. At the same time, the frequency and the volume of the ABS training increases, and cardiovascular training frequency and duration increases as well. Myo-fascial stretching, SomaTraining and the ELDOA never stop!

This approach to training professional and elite athletes has proven to be more effective than other traditional methodologies.

Sports Performance Tip: if you are an athlete, our recommendation is to begin to integrate the SomaTraining exercises and methodology into your training program.

Lifestyle & Recovery Center

Nicer days and warmer temps make our outdoor Recovery area perfect for post-sauna recovery and healthy natural sunlight exposure.

Sauna is available for private sessions. Open Sauna dates in March. Host our popular Sauna Ed course in the Learn by Doing format. For course specifics, see below.

The next Sauna Education (Certification) Course is scheduled for the month of March. Enrollment is limited to eight (8) people: email Claudia directly at claudiadzelazny@gmail.com to sign up.

Topics of discussion include the importance of sweating, what is the optimal time for a single sauna session, what is the optimal temperature to use in a Dry Sauna, how to use cold water exposure by itself, or in combination with the dry sauna, and the importance of drinking water.

As part of the Course Theory, all the participants complete the Ruffier (Pulse) Test. This simple test can be used in different aspects of a Wellness or Sports Performance Program including the length of time in a Sauna Session and exposure to cold water.

Participants learn to use a Dry Sauna effectively and how to safely begin cold water exposure. The course concludes with rest in our Recovery area and a bottle of mineral water from the Legacy Water Bar.

We would like to host a combination of ELDOA Level 1 (in the one-day format) combined with an Introduction to Myo-fascial Stretching in 2024.

We ask all ELDOA Practitioners – at any level -to visit the official ELDOA website – eldoavoyer.com – to make sure your contact information is accurate.

This was posted on our Instagram account and we have heard from several Student Practitioners. Thanks!

The way Legacy has our School set up in Dallas allows for Students to travel from all parts of the country for training and continuing education, while at the same time creating the opportunity to invest some of their personal time in their self-care using our Gym and Lifestyle-Recovery Center. We believe that this one-two combination can’t be beaten and we invite you to enroll in a course with us in 2024.

Client Education News

Saturday, March 9 at 9:30 am, Scott will teach a 30-minute Tutorial in our Gym. In the first 10 minutes the theory addresses the difference between a global exercise (such as the leg press) versus a segmental exercise (like training the glute medius) and how both can be functional exercises in an individual’s training program. A circuit of six exercises will be set up on the white board for clients to follow during the Open Gym Session from 10 to 1:30 pm. Post workout, Myo-fascial Stretching and ELDOAs will be on the white board too. Open Gym Sessions are an opportunity for members of our community to use our Gym equipment and follow a scripted Workout of the Day. The fee for Open Gym is $25.00, but if you have a Legacy Class Card, Open Gym is $20.00.

If you are from out of town, but would like to participate in our wellness educational series, consider scheduling a Wellness Immersion in Dallas and combine it with an educational workshop while you are here.

Coming Soon:  The Professional Development Series:  live workshops, homework lessons, and remote learning for Student Practitioners enrolled in the SomaTraining, SomaTherapy, and/or ELDOA Comprehensive Program..
