Long-Term Anti-depressant Use Is Questioned

I have seen clients put on anti-depressants on many occasions. In some cases it makes sense and in others I find myself asking the questioning why? But long term use of anti-pressants never appeared practical to me from a physiologic point of view. Now more information is being published questioning the benefits of long-term use of anti-depressants in people-

Harvard researchers: “Long-term antidepressant use may be depressogenic . . . it is possible that antidepressant agents modify the hardwiring of neuronal synapses (which) not only render antidepressants ineffective but also induce a resident, refractory depressive state.”
