Several weeks ago, Scott was invited to sit down and speak about Legacy’s Center of Excellence and all that it entails. The link to that Podcast is attached below. Topics of discussion included What is ELDOA?, the benefits of using the ELDOA exercises, what is Legacy’s Center of Excellence and how did it come to be, and more.

Cardia Center News

If you are new to our community, or have not visited our Center in Dallas, we have an area in our gym dedicated to Cardiovascular Health and Training. Clients use the area for a proper warm-up to their private sessions and group workouts. On the white board in the Cardiac Center there are several different workouts clients can choose to do. Each workout targets a different part of the cardiovascular system. The Cardiac Center is used for aerobic training programs and testing, too.

The Importance of Regular Aerobic Training in a Wellness Program

Last week a prominent wellness doctor stated in an interview that he did not agree with the research supporting the importance of a good VO2 Max and its correlation to wellness and longevity.

SCOTT COMPLETELY DISAGREES!

The movement of blood throughout the body is essential and the heart and its capacity play an important role is these fluid dynamics. Throughout COVID, Scott regularly spoke about the importance of the cardiovascular system and one’s capacity to “fight disease”.

The past few months, a close member of our wellness community has been in the hospital battling for his life. Last week he was able to return home and begin the journey back to well-being. Feeding tubes, ports, and more than 90 days of antibiotics have been his daily existence. There is no doubt in Scott’s mind that if it were not for the high VO2 Max, he would not have survived. Approximately one year ago, in a physical conditioning certification course, he tested out near the top of the class in the VO2 Max test and the sauna training.

Most people think of VO2 Max in the context of sports performance, but the research shows that it is a strong indicator of wellness, and the capacity to fight disease. In the Cardio section below, we provided a small chart about VO2 Max and this Fall, John Sandstrom and Scott plan to introduce a new program for regular and out of town clients in which to participate. The program includes steady state cardio training, integral training, small semi-private training sessions, a customized cardiovascular training program based upon VO2 Max testing results, and more.

Sports & Performance News

NFL Training Camps are in full swing and pre-season games begin this weekend.

Many of the players that we see at our Center initially come because of an injury or an unresolved issue; however, most of those players continue to use the SomaTraining exercises as part of their Performance Packages when they return to their team.

Two of the most committed football players within out community are both defensive linemen in the National Football League. Solomon Thomas, #94 plays defensive tackle for the NY Jets, one of the top defensive units last season.

Lifestyle & Recovery Center

The Sauna Certification Course was well received and we shared Rob Licht’s contact information with the students. There is so much to know about sauna and taking the course or our Client Workshop enhances the benefits received from a sauna program. Legacy’s next Client Workshop will be in September.

Even though it was hot outside, students are loving the even hotter temperatures inside and enjoying morning sauna and sauna at the end of the classroom day.

Topics of discussion include the importance of sweating, what is the optimal time for a single sauna session, what is the optimal temperature to use in a Dry Sauna, how to use cold water exposure by itself, or in combination with the dry sauna, and the importance of drinking water.

As part of the Course Theory, all the participants complete the Ruffier (Pulse) Test. This simple test can be used in different aspects of a Wellness or Sports Performance Program including the length of time in a Sauna Session and exposure to cold water.

the Training Table News

the Training Table is where Wellness and Sports Performance begin!

In our Newsletter, the Training Table is a section devoted to all topics related to nutrition, cooking, and wellbeing. In the coming months we will expand upon all these topics.

What are Essential Oils? – Claudia

Essential oils are non-oily substances, 100% concentrated, volatile extracts, obtained from the essences of aromatic plants, which are housed in tiny glands found in various areas (the producing organs) of the aromatic plan: flowers, leaves, seeds, roots, grass, wood, etc.

An essential oil is obtained as a result of steam distillation. An essence is a substance secreted by the plant in its producing organs. In the case of citrus fruits, their essence is extracted by expression, not steam distillation, so it really isn’t proper to speak of Lemon essential oil, as an example, since it is not a distilled product.

There are 250 to 300 botanical essential oils. There are only 5 to 6 synthetic essential oils, which are chemical compounds created in a lab. Many of God’s creations cannot be reproduced in a laboratory!

Not all oils are created equal. The superiority and potency of their therapeutic quality is directly related to:

the part of the plant from which the oil was extracted
volatility of the oil
process of extraction
place of origin of the plant
subspecies (chemotype-which is the biochemical specificity of the plant).

There is soooo much to know about essential oils…more later!

The Water Bar

Water is a big deal at Legacy. In fact, water is Nature’s First Medicine. One hundred cases of water were delivered this week.

Buy water in bulk at the old pricing until July 15. Prices will increase due to shipping costs doubling. We are working on a solution. One idea is a Water Club for those who buy in bulk. We have several clients who take advantage of this service. Once details are fleshed out, we will invite you to participate.

Another Texas summer is close at hand: staying hydrated is easy with Legacy’s Water Bar!
