Wellness News

Saturday morning, September 14th, we added a Circulatory and Active Recovery Workout to the Weekend Wellness Series.

This workout targets lymphatic drainage, helps removal of lactic acid in the muscles, and is a good cardiovascular workout because of the pace of the class and the different working positions it encompasses. When used several times a week, the Circulatory workout is beneficial for varicose veins. The Dry Sauna and Recovery Center were open immediately following the group session.

September 21, the Weekend Wellness Series features General Strengthening for Wellness Group workout at 8:30 followed by an ELDOA Workout at 9:30 am. The General Strengthening session is a 60 minute workout that combines strengthening exercises for all parts of the body, proprioception and awareness (balance), Myo-fascial stretching with a few movements from Legacy’s FLO session mixed in. Saturday’s strengthening session is designed for wellness clients who have no chronic pain.

After the group workout ELDOA, Scott will meet with people in the small classroom to discuss Legacy’s approach to wellness and our group exercise program. Guests will be able to ask Scott general questions regarding his approach to teaching people how to be well.

The Sauna and Recovery Center will be open from 10:30 to 1:30.

The Legacy Wellness Workout Series offered most weekends is a combination of several types of different trainings designed to improve each person’s wellness.

For optimal results, combine the Wellness Workout Series with a customized Home Program

Cardiac Center News

If you are new to our community, or have not visited our Center in Dallas, we have an area in our gym dedicated to Cardiovascular Health and Training. Clients use the area for a proper warm-up to their private sessions and group workouts. On the white board in the Cardiac Center there are several different workouts clients can choose to do. Each workout targets a different part of the cardiovascular system. The Cardiac Center is used for aerobic training programs and testing, too.

Most people think of VO2 Max in the context of sports performance, but the research shows that it is a strong indicator of wellness, and the capacity to fight disease. In the Cardio section below, we provided a small chart about VO2 Max and this Fall, John Sandstrom and Scott plan to introduce a new program for regular and out of town clients in which to participate. The program includes steady state cardio training, integral training, small semi-private training sessions, a customized cardiovascular training program based upon VO2 Max testing results, and more.

Sports & Performance News

Solomon Thomas had another solid performance in Week 2 of regular season games. Thursday night, Solomon and the Jets won their home opening against the New England Patriots at Met Life Stadium. The Jets are now 2 and 1after three weeks of regular season games.

Many people know Solomon as a leader of the defense for the NY Jets, but there is another side to Solomon, a side that we see most days when he is getting his work done at our Center.

When Solomon’s teammate went down with a season ending injury Sunday, more of the world got to see that side of Solomon – link to SI article:

The Sauna Certification Course is always well received. There is so much to know about sauna and taking the course or our Client Workshop enhances the benefits received from a sauna program. Legacy’s next Client Workshop will be in the Fall. Another Certification Course will be taught during Fall School on November 24th after the Strapping Certification Course ends.

Registration is open for Fall School:

Even though it was hot outside, students are loving the even hotter temperatures inside and enjoying morning sauna and sauna at the end of the classroom day.

Topics of discussion include the importance of sweating, what is the optimal time for a single sauna session, what is the optimal temperature to use in a Dry Sauna, how to use cold water exposure by itself, or in combination with the dry sauna, and the importance of drinking water.

As part of the Course Theory, all the participants complete the Ruffier (Pulse) Test. This simple test can be used in different aspects of a Wellness or Sports Performance Program including the length of time in a Sauna Session and exposure to cold water.

the Training Table News

the Training Table is where Wellness and Sports Performance begin!
We have configured part of the space in our Center for better display of the products we carry and for ease of shopping. Always ask for help or advice if you require more information on a product.

The Role of Magnesium in Your Health: Claudia

Magnesium is often overlooked in the list of nutrients required, but its role in maintaining overall health is critical. This essential mineral participates in more than 650 biochemical reactions in the body, impacting everything from muscle function to mood regulation.

What are some signs you aren’t getting enough:

• muscle cramps and spasms
• fatigue and weakness from decreased energy production
• nausea and vomiting – less common, but signals a more severe deficiency
• abnormal heart rhythms
• tingling and numbness in the extremities
• mental health issues – increased symptoms of anxiety and depression

Magnesium-rich foods include:

• leafy greens – organic spinach, kale and Swiss chard
• nuts and seeds – almonds, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds
• Fish – wild-caught salmon, mackerel, and halibut
• fruits – organic bananas and avocados

Note: it is almost impossible to meet your daily Magnesium needs, even through a well-balanced diet. Pumpkin seeds in particular are the highest food source of Magnesium, but you would have to eat an average of 2-3 cups daily just to have enough.

If you want more information about this nutrient or need help choosing a product, book an appointment with one of our holistic lifestyle coaches.

The Water Bar

Water is a big deal at Legacy. In fact, water is Nature’s First Medicine. One hundred cases of water were delivered last week.

Buy water in bulk at the old pricing. Prices will increase due to shipping costs doubling. We are working on a solution. One idea is a Water Club for those who buy in bulk. We have several clients who take advantage of this service. Once details are fleshed out, we will invite you to participate.
